'X Factor' chiefs defend Sharon Osbourne
X Factor producers have denied claims that Sharon Osbourne tried to sabotage last year's series.

Sharon's brother David Arden told a Sunday newspaper that she had advised one of her contestants, Ben Mills, to quit the show when she realised that Simon Cowell's hopeful Leona Lewis was most popular with the public.

He also claimed that Osbourne was sacked after the first series, for taunting Cowell with suggestions that he is secretly gay, but ITV bosses eventually allowed her to return.

However, an X Factor spokeswoman told the Daily Star: "These claims are ridiculous. Sharon has never been sacked from the show and the fact that she's now back for a fourth series speaks for itself.

"It's no secret that Ben and Sharon disagreed over song choices but no way did she try to sabotage the show."
