Barbara, 42, was devastated when her partner walked out on her, and decided that auditioning for the ITV1 talent series would be the best way to prove that he was wrong to leave.
"A couple of months ago, he dropped the bomb and said I don't love you anymore. I fell to the floor and he stepped over me and went and played a game of golf," Barbara explained. "I need to pick myself up and I need to go for this."
After telling the judges about her story, Barbara tried to impress them by performing Barbra Streisand's 'Somewhere'.
"That was a musical up yours, wasn't it?" Simon Cowell remarked.
Sharon Osbourne then described Barbara as a "gutsy woman", while Dannii Minogue said: "I think it would be an amazing up yours if you won this competition!"
Tune into The X Factor at 6.25pm tonight to see if Barbara makes it through to boot camp.
