2009 Reality TV Stars No.1: John & Edward

Simon Cowell: "Where do you see yourselves in ten years' time?" A Grimes twin: "I see myself being older." And so the phenomenon known as Jedward began. Two Irish boys with weak vocals, silly haircuts and a passion for the Backstreet Boys may not sound like the makings of superstars, but they ended up being the undoubted reality TV heroes of 2009. Susan Boyle might go on to sell more albums, and Gino D'Acampo and Sophie Reade may be less offensive, but none of them were as mind-blowingly perfect for reality TV as Jedward.



Whether the predicted millions and Ant & Dec-type TV career surfaces will depend on some canny management from Louis Walsh and probably even a bit of good fortune. A cheap rush-release of 'Ice Ice Baby' and an ITV2 reality series might spoil their charm, though regardless of what happens in the future, it is safe to say that the world of showbiz in 2009 belonged to only two people - John & Edward. Does it mean that X Factor is no longer a singing competition? Let's be honest, who really cares!
