The Olympic swimmer was told that he needs to show more charisma after he competed against his fellow male contestants on Saturday night. Despite the criticism, the panel later chose to save him rather than TV chef Gary Rhodes when they found themselves in the bottom two.
"I think the acting coach will be a great idea," Foster confirmed on spinoff programme It Takes Two. "I mean, in the swimming pool I'm very, very confident - it's what I train to do. Whereas on the dancefloor I'm getting more confident, but it needs to be a lot quicker - we haven't got time to play around.
"I'm learning that it's just as much about the act as it is about the dance as well, so I need both aspects. Rather than thinking 'every foot right', I need to now act it as well."
Strictly continues at 5.50pm on Saturday on BBC One.
