Cole said he was so shocked by their turn in fortunes that he now has faith that they could "be there at the end".
Speaking on It Takes Two, the New Zealander said he had spent "one of the worst weeks I've seen in Strictly history" with Snowdon two weeks ago.
"To come through that and turn it around was sensational," he told Claudia Winkleman.
"I was in shock the whole time [during the dance]. I was surprised that it had turned around and that we’d got the marks and judges' comments, which were fantastic."
He continued: "It put us in a place where we thought, 'We could actually be here at the end if we put the hard work in and don't have too many ups and downs'.
"When you are third or fourth you don't think you have much chance of being there, what with all the other people getting better than you. To be at the top, it's like you can see a glimmer of hope."
