The GMTV presenter was voted off the programme last weekend after his Samba with partner Ola Jordan failed to impress both the judges and the public.
"I should have danced better. It was time for me to go. There were better dancers than me," he told Claudia Winkleman during BBC Two spinoff It Takes Two.
Castle also revealed that he would have liked to tackle the Quickstep and Jive if he had remained in the competition.
Jordan called the pair's exit "unfortunate", but said she enjoyed her time working with Castle.
"I loved it. We worked hard. He was hard work but it was fun. It's a shame we are out," she said.
