The Capital Radio DJ, who topped the leaderboard on last Saturday's show, claimed that it was "sad" that Sergeant felt the need to quit the programme.
"I wouldn't have minded if John had beaten me," she told Metro. "Not at all. It's an entertainment show and popularity counts.
"The dancing is only 50% of the show, the public is the other half. We can't control how much viewers like us."
Cherie Lunghi and professional partner James Jordan, who were voted off the show before Sergeant left, said that the political reporter's survival was down to "sympathy".
Jordan previously commented: "Some people are saying I'm a sore loser... But enough's enough. Because there are only great dancers left in the competition - and John."
