The Daily Star claims that Len Goodman, Arlene Phillips, Craig Revel Horwood and Bruno Tonioli may be unable to influence the weekly results next year. Under the new scheme, they would offer their opinions on the dancers but not score them.
The programme's judges faced a backlash this year after they were accused of being responsible for John Sergeant's decision to quit. He pulled out in November after his popularity with the public led to criticism from the panel.
Further controversy followed earlier this month when a tie at the top of the judges' leaderboard made it impossible for Tom Chambers to avoid the dance-off. Producers eventually resolved the situation by putting all three semi-finalists through to the final.
The latest rumours come after a report stated that Strictly will face a "major revamp" next year.
However, a BBC spokeswoman played down the speculation, insisting: "No decisions have yet been made about future series. We've only just finished this year's. Planning for Strictly series seven will start next year and, as always, we will look at lots of ways to ensure that the show is the best it can possibly be."
