The Irish music manager said that her departure from the BBC One reality show will help boost The X Factor's ratings.
"They've made a massive mistake sacking Arlene. She knows more about dancing than anyone else," he told The Mirror.
Meanwhile, X Factor's producers apparently do not believe that the appointment of Alesha Dixon will win Strictly any younger viewers.
"They think it's funny that Strictly brought in Alesha to attract younger viewers," said a source. "Most young people aren't drawn to ballroom dancing. Nothing will change that."
It was announced earlier this month that Dixon and ballet star Darcey Bussell would be replacing Phillips on the judging panel for the seventh series.
The 66-year-old choreographer has taken up a new post as a Strictly correspondent on The One Show.
