Producers hope that the 61-year-old actress's presence will defuse the current ageism row surrounding the show, according to The Mirror.
This year's run has already sparked over 1,000 complaints from viewers before it has even begun. The decision to drop 66-year-old Arlene Phillips from the judging panel in favour of popstar Alesha Dixon, 30, has been criticised by fans, while the exit of professional dancer Karen Hardy, 39, has also been controversial.
A source explained: "Lynda is a great signing and hopefully her appearance helps to illustrate that there is no age bias. We want a fresh and varied lineup and we know Lynda would be a handful.
"Having seen her on Loose Women, she will give as good as she gets if things get heated in training or in front of the judges."
Along with her role on Loose Women, Bellingham is best known for her appearances on Oxo TV advertisements. She has also appeared in At Home With The Braithwaites and The Bill.
