Du Beke 'lying low' after racism row

BBC

Strictly Come Dancing star Anton Du Beke is said to be keeping a low profile following his recent racism controversy.

According to the Daily Star, the professional dancer's celebrity partner Laila Rouass set tongues wagging at the Pride of Britain Awards earlier this week by arriving without him.

Other Strictly pairs, including Joe Calzaghe and Kristina Rihanoff, attended the ceremony together on Monday evening. However, Rouass chose to be accompanied by her Primeval co-star Lucy Brown.

A source said: "Anton was very, very noticeable by his absence - he had obviously been told to keep away. Many of us thought he'd turn up with Laila to show they had put this unpleasant incident behind them.

"But either he or the BBC must have decided it would be best for him to lay low."

Du Beke recently made a public apology after it emerged that he had called Rouass a "P**i" in rehearsals. Despite calls for him to be sacked, the BBC has ruled out taking further action.

On the Pride of Britain rumours, a spokeswoman for the corporation insisted: "Laila decided to take along a friend from Primeval. There's nothing sinister in that. Anton wasn't snubbed. We've accepted his apology and we are all moving on."
