The Strictly Come Dancing participant caused controversy last week when it emerged that he had used the word "P**i" to describe his dance partner Laila Rouass.
The News of the World reports that Du Beke is now concerned that he will not be able to continue working on television. A source claimed that the dancer said that he was "f**ked" and added: "I've been a total tw*t".
"Anton sounded really shaken and upset," the insider said. "It didn't dawn on him at first how serious the situation was, but he certainly knows now.
"He realises that despite hanging onto his job for the time being, he could still be finished with the BBC in the long-term. The producers often quietly dump dancers between series."
The source added that Du Beke had hoped to replace Bruce Forsyth as Strictly host, but continued: "Anton is realistic enough to know that the chances of replacing Brucie now are virtually zero. He is just hoping he will make it back on the show next year as a dancer. Even that is in jeopardy."
The insider also claimed that Du Beke was trying to "impress" Rouass with the comment, saying: "He thought his description of Laila after her spray tan was amusing and would make her laugh.
"He genuinely hasn't got a racist bone in his body. His dad was Hungarian and his mum was Spanish - he has no problem with anyone's skin colour or race.
"And because he knows he isn't a racist, he can't understand why he's being accused of racism. His reaction is to simply say, 'But I'm not'."
