Dixon: 'Young people experience ageism'

WENN

Strictly Come Dancing judge Alesha Dixon has reportedly claimed that young people experience ageism in the TV industry.

The popstar made her remark in a discussion with Fearne Cotton on a forthcoming ITV2 documentary, according to the Daily Express.

Dixon is quoted as saying: "I think people have been ageist towards young people. I think there is this presumption that if you're below the age of 30, you haven't got a clue about what you're doing."

She continued: "I really believe it's not how old you are, it's your life experience that frames your character."

The singer faced controversy after replacing 66-year-old Arlene Phillips on the Strictly panel earlier this year. Critics claimed that the BBC had axed Phillips due to her age.

Dixon's debut as a judge was later criticised by some fans, who branded her a poor replacement for Phillips.

Fearne and... Alesha Dixon airs on Thursday at 10pm on ITV2.
