The soap star, who has claimed on numerous occasions that his target was to reach the one-off show in his hometown, argued that every week he remains in the contest from now on is "a bonus".
"The pressure is now completely off us, so we can really have fun now," the Coronation Street actor told It Takes Two. "Every week from now on is a massive, massive bonus."
Kelly, who is partnered by Flavia Cacace, added: "The exciting thing is when you hear what dances you have coming up. That's what is so addictive about this show."
Speaking about his cha cha cha routine for this weekend, he said: "We had a turning point today. The first couple of days are always a nightmare, then Wednesday I hope for a tiny breakthrough and we got it today. It suits Blackpool, the cha cha cha."
Cacace added: "It's a party dance and it's nice to go to Blackpool to put on a party - and get the crowd going hopefully."
Strictly continues on Saturday at 6.25pm on BBC One.
