The professional dancer, who finished second in the 2004 series with Denise Lewis, said that he was optimistic about their chances in the competition.
"Actually, I do want to come out of the closet. I want to tell everybody that we want to be in the final," he told It Takes Two. "I think because we have put all this work in, I think come on."
Johnson added: "I'm still looking at it week-by-week. I'm still amazed that I'm still here. I thought I would be out week three or four. I'll leave all the other thinking to Ian."
Speaking about their upcoming tango routine, the Olympic athlete said: "I'm loving it. I'm picking it up quite quickly. It is one of the dances that I love, so I'm really pleased to have actually made it this far to get to do it. There's a little bit of feistiness in it."
Waite commented: "I'm so excited because I haven't danced it since Zoe Ball in series three, so to get to do it again four years on is really exciting. It really suits Jade's personality."
