The 38-year-old comedian was originally tipped to take part in the BBC One celebrity series, but was notably absent from the lineup when it was officially announced.
Speaking exclusively to DS, Vegas confirmed that the BBC contacted him about taking part, but he had other projects on the go.
"They made some enquiries but to be honest, it's such a big commitment to do the show and I really was just so busy with other things and I just know health-wise... Well, would it be good for ratings - me keeling over?!"
He added: "I know how tiring it is and it's not something I have time to do at the moment, but it's nice to be asked! I think they were looking for this season's John Sergeant and I think they thought they'd found that in me!"
Vegas also said that he would turn down any offers to appear on ITV1's I'm A Celebrity...: "No! No, no, no! Not really mate! The idea of being on TV 24 hours a day and people seeing the real me... No."
