The judge claimed that he wanted to see "another side" to the former Hollyoaks actress on the dancefloor.
"I've wanted her to come out of this beautiful, ethereal, fairytale princess. I wanted her to show me another side to her personality," he told It Takes Two.
"We know she can dance, but we are getting near the final so we need to see something else now in the Latin dances. Come on give it to me! I want to see another side to her... Unleash another aspect. The animal and physical."
However, fellow judge Craig Revel Horwood praised Bastian for going "against the grain" with her Charleston performance last weekend.
"Goofy, goofy, goofy - It was so against the grain of her naturally. That's what I loved about it. It was almost a mess - that's what I loved about it. She was really going for that characterisation," he said.
Strictly continues on Saturday at 6.40pm on BBC One.
