The former Coronation Street actor partnered Karen Hardy in 2007, but was booted off the show in the first elimination. Joking about his brief stint learning ballroom dancing, the soap star admitted that it kept him grounded.
Speaking to WhatsOnStage about his experience on the reality show, he said: "Well the funny thing is it did do me a lot of good, because I did fail quite miserably and it was quite humiliating, horrible and embarrassing!"
Explaining his poor performance on the programme, he added: "It's a question of remembering things, and on Strictly I was actually quite ill. I had the really horrible flu that was going round - and I just about got through the first part okay and then lost it in the dance-off."
