The EastEnders actor topped the leaderboard on Saturday, picking up three perfect scores of 10 in his total of 39.
Speaking on It Takes Two about the build-up to his Viennese waltz performance, Maslen said: "It is so hard to describe my feelings, because we are doing this so much. Everything is constantly changing and you just have to go along with it on this journey.
"It was such a hard week last week for so many reasons and it got emotional. When you get tired, you are vulnerable and emotional, you feel like it is all conspiring against you. But we had a moment on Friday where we were feeling negative and then it turned. It really gave me the confidence and boost to go out on Saturday and enjoy it."
His pro partner Natalie Lowe added: "I couldn't believe it [on Saturday]. It wasn't the best preparation last week. It just all came together at the last minute, so it was exciting. Everything fell into place at the last minute. He took me on a dream. It was amazing."
Maslen and Lowe will be dancing a rumba on this weekend's live show.
