8.5m see first 'Strictly' semi-final

BBC One's Strictly Come Dancing semi-final was hit by a Coronation Street special on ITV1 last night, early viewing figures indicate.

The first of this weekend's semi-finals took 8.48m (33.4%), significantly down on how the ballroom dancing show has been performing of late.

Elsewhere on the channel, The One Show nabbed 5.31m (23.5%) at 7pm, A Question of Sport interested 3.31m (13.7%) at 7.30pm, 3.85m (11%) watched QI at 8.30pm and The Graham Norton Show entertained 3.6m (22.3%) at 10.35pm.

Meanwhile, ITV1's Countrywise Kitchen had 3.94m (16.3%) at 8pm, at which point Channel 4's Come Dine with Me hooked 1.1m (4.4%) plus an extra 207k (0.8%) on timeshift, and Channel 5's White Van Man managed 476k (1.9%).

BBC Two's Match Of The Day Live scored 1.55m (6.2%) between 7.30pm and 10pm, after which The Stephen K Amos Show held only 381k (1.7%).

The Event mustered 754k (3%) for Channel 4 at 9pm, then Peep Show amused 993k (4.5%) and Robert's Web could only please 650k (3.5%), while The Mentalist and Law & Order: SVU drew 1.19m (4.7%) and 890k (4.4%) for Channel 5.

Overall, ITV1 beat BBC One in primetime, with 28.5% to 26%. BBC Two was third with 5.3%, Channel 4 followed with 3.5% (+1: 0.6%), and Channel 5 averaged 3%.
