Claudia Winkleman announced that she was stepping down from the dancing competition's companion show in May. The pregnant presenter admitted that she will miss the programme "so much".
According to The Sun, the three female presenters have all screen-tested for the role, ahead of It Takes Two's return in September.
"Strictly is a glamorous show so we want someone glamorous to host It Takes Two," a source told the paper. "They all screen-tested well so now we're just deciding who to pick."
Kaplinsky, who won the first series of the competition in 2004, was previously tipped as a "contender", alongside Daybreak's Kate Garraway.
The former BBC and Channel 5 newsreader was recently linked to ITV's new entertainment series Born To Shine.
