Robbie Savage has admitted to feeling "petrified" about his Strictly Come Dancing debut this weekend.

The ex-footballer told Metro that he had not seen much of the show in the past and did not really know what he was getting into.

Savage said: "I've seen one or two but I was playing Saturdays. Maybe that's why I didn't understand what it was all about.

"I am not very good at all. I'm feeling petrified now. We performed in a gym last week in front of 20 old ladies. We got them in as a treat and I messed up. I forgot the routine, my mind went blank."

Savage previously admitted to feeling "shattered" by the "mentally draining" experience of training for Strictly.

He has been paired with professional partner Ola Jordan in the dancing competition.

Savage recently mocked an article in a newspaper claiming that he and Jordan had been photographed sporting "glum expressions" after a training session.

Of being "really nervous" about his bow on this weekend's show, the ex-Leicester City star said: "People wouldn't expect that of me. This is my normal side, though - on the pitch it's different but I'm very shy.

"I don't know if I would have signed up if I'd known it would be like this. It's unbelievably stressful. You're shattered. I've got injuries I never had as a player - bad thigh, bad foot.

"My wife has been very supportive but I think it's hard for the partners because you don't realise how demanding this show is. This is not my lifestyle, I'm not a celebrity."

Strictly Come Dancing resumes on Friday, September 30 at 9pm on BBC One.
