The footballer picked up 29 points and won a standing ovation for his foxtrot on Saturday.
Savage claimed that he had been "inspired" after Craig Revel Horwood blasted his week one performance of the cha cha cha and awarded the Welsh sports star only a two.
Speaking on It Takes Two about his change in fortune at the weekend, Savage said: "I've got to say it was probably one of the best nights of my life. The previous week with Craig's 2... to get a 7, I felt so good.
"I was buzzing. Len's comments and Alesha's marks... walking up the stairs and to have the other competitors cheering my name. It's the first time in my life I've been wanted."
Savage and pro partner Ola Jordan are dancing a tango this weekend.
