The Welsh sportsman ripped away his trousers during a samba to Hot Chocolate's 'You Sexy Thing' with professional partner Ola Jordan, revealing blue football shorts and socks underneath.
Although Savage's undressing caused shock amongst the studio audience, the Strictly judging panel was less impressed with the display.
Craig Revel Horwood described the strip show as a "gratuitous sort of inane reveal", while Len Goodman said that Savage had ruined an otherwise promising performance.
"You somehow get possessed and it turns into Match of the Day all of a sudden," he said. "You dance, you do it good and then you stick all that stuff in."
Alesha Dixon, however, was more positive about the "entertaining" routine, commenting: "I love that you're relaxed and just having fun in this competition, and it's clearly having a good effect on you."
Bruno Tonioli concluded proceedings by likening Savage to "a kangaroo with lead feet", but jested that the 37-year-old should consider a career as a stripper instead.
Host Bruce Forsyth also noted that Savage was likely to be the first male celebrity to show his legs in nine series of Strictly Come Dancing.
Savage finished bottom of the leaderboard after receiving 25 points for his samba and just one point in the swingathon.
Strictly Come Dancing continues Sunday (November 27) at 7.25pm on BBC One.
