Phillips, who was controversially sacked in favour of Alesha Dixon in 2009, could yet win back her place among the ballroom dancing show judges.
The BBC announced yesterday afternoon that Dixon had left Strictly, with it later emerging that she has joined the Britain's Got Talent 2012 judging panel.
Phillips wrote on her Twitter page: "Gosh twitter followers and friends.
"I am overwhelmed by your incredible tweets campaigns and Facebook messages. So much love and thanks."
However, ex-Strictly professional Karen Hardy is currently the bookmakers' favourite to fill the vacancy.
Dirty Dancing actress Jennifer Grey, Russell Grant, Kara Tointon, Jill Halfpenny and Darcey Bussell all have shorter odds than Phillips.
