However, producers are said to have decided to film the whole tenth series in London due to high costs, despite being located nearer the BBC's new headquarters in Salford, Manchester.
Disappointed local engineer John Kileen told The Sun: "I cannot believe Blackpool is being passed over when it has the best venue for Strictly.
"Everyone keeps going on about the BBC relocating to the North and being less London-centric but this move represents a betrayal of the North."
A BBC spokesperson has yet to confirm or deny the report that Blackpool will not be used this year.
Olympic athletes Beth Tweddle and Victoria Pendleton have been targeted by producers to join this year's lineup of contestants.
Radio 2's Chris Evans, cricketer Michael Vaughan, EastEnders star Charlie Brooks and Westlife's Nicky Byrne are all rumoured to be taking part in the show's 10th series.
Strictly Come Dancing will return to BBC One in the autumn.
