Russell Howard has revealed that he turned down the chance to star on this year's series of Strictly Come Dancing.

The comedian suggested that competing on the show would mean his career is "in trouble".

"My mum was gutted, but there's just no chance I was going to do it," Howard told the Daily Star.

"I was flattered they asked, but I really, really can't dance. I'm like a newborn pony.

"And it'd probably mean my career was in trouble if I did it. I'll stick to the comedy."

Girls Aloud's Kimberley Walsh, London 2012 gold medal winner Victoria Pendleton and Denise Van Outen are among the celebrities competing on the upcoming series of Strictly Come Dancing, which launches on Saturday (September 15) at 6.30pm on BBC One.

Howard recently defended Frankie Boyle, saying that there are "far worse things in the world" than his jokes.
