'Strictly' quarter final: Dance-off

Published Saturday, Dec 9 2006, 20:11 GMT | By James Welsh
Emma Bunton and Darren Bennett along with Louisa Lytton and Vincent Simone are to face a dance off in Strictly Come Dancing's quarter final.

Each couple will perform the dance scored most highly by the judges earlier in the evening; in the case of Emma and Darren, this will be the Tango to Nelly Furtado's "Maneater", and in the case of Louisa and Vincent, this will be the American Smooth to "Do Nothing Till You Hear From Me" by Robbie Williams.

All the judges, despite being amazed that both couples were in the bottom two, said Emma deserved to stay.

"I'm absolutely torn," said Arlene when asked who should stay. "These two couples should both be here next week. Emma and Darren simply because Emma really used her spine for the first time ever in the competition."

"When I look at these couples it's such a problem," said Len. "One of these going is bizarre. Overall the whole series... Emma, you deserve to come back."

"This is a terrible position to be in," added Bruno. "I love them both. I really feel deeply for both of them. I want to see them both... The edge is with Emma."

"I just want to remind everyone at home this is a dance competition, not a popularity contest," said a clearly irked Craig. "I want people at home to vote for the best dancers. If I have to choose someone I have to choose Emma."
