Lisa Riley brought a gigantic smile, huge heart and a lightness on her feet that nobody saw coming.
Richard Arnold was Craig Revel Horwood's pre-series pick for a dance disaster, but the breakfast TV veteran showcased some elegance and grace in his waltz that blew away Len Goodman.
Meanwhile, Victoria Pendleton proved to be the flop of the first weekend. The Olympian looked out of sorts off her bicycle and she ended up at the bottom of the leaderboard.
Week 1: Our Top 5 Dances:
1. Lisa Riley and Robin Cousins: Judges' score 30
Described as a "funky monkey" and a "fizzy cola bottle" by the judges, Lisa sprung to life on the dancefloor. Craig giving an 8 in week one was a revelation, but a deserved one.
2. Kimberley Walsh and Pasha Kovalev: Judges' score 28
Nimble Kimble oozed sex appeal and gave us a sizzling cha cha cha. Not the finished article yet, but she looks like she might produce something very special.
3. Colin Salmon & Kristina Rihanoff: Judges' score 23
The second surprise of the weekend came with little and large duo Colin and Kristina, who made up for their height issues with a firecracker Latin routine that revealed the Bond actor has definitely got rhythm in his locker.
4. Louis Smith & Flavia Cacace: Judges' score 27
After being lumped with Russell Grant last year, Flavia Cacace has thankfully been handed the contestant with the most potential (and flexibility) this year. The Olympic gymnast was slightly too stiff and methodical in week one, but his cool splits finale proves his potential as a showstopper.
5. Richard Arnold & Erin Boag: Judges' score 22
Shock number 3. An ITV breakfast presenter who doesn't move like a zombie on the dancefloor. While his face may have looked over-Botoxed, Pretty Dickie's waltz technique was strong and he helped us erase the nightmares of Fiona Phillips and Kate Garraway from our memory banks.
