'Strictly' Richard Arnold: 'I smoulder like a damp wick'

Richard Arnold has downplayed his performance on Strictly Come Dancing in week one, after surprising the judges with his week one waltz.

The Daybreak presenter will be dancing a cha cha cha with Erin Boag this weekend and the professional showbiz gossip merchant claimed that he was struggling with the Latin number.

"You see someone like Colin Salmon and he goes on the dancefloor and smoulders," the TV star told It Takes Two.

"I smoulder like a damp wick... There's not a lot of Latin coursing through my veins."

Boag promised that the new routine would allow Arnold to be more "flamboyant" and "bubbly" on the dancefloor. Meanwhile, Arnold joked that "there is not a row of tents long enough" because the dance is so camp.

"I'll throw some shapes. Much like my dad at a wedding after a few bottles of the old sauce," he said.

"There are a few wiggles. I don't think the corporation has a license for these wiggles."

Strictly airs on Saturday night at 6.30pm on BBC One.
