The 23-year-old revealed in a press conference today (February 5) that she will no longer swim competitively after winning double Olympic gold at Beijing in 2008 and a pair of bronze medals at London 2012.

The announcement prompted bookmakers to speculate about what Adlington might do next, giving even odds that she will sign up for this year's series of Strictly - a show she has previously expressed interest in joining.
Ladbrokes even has her at 20/1 to win the 2013 edition of Strictly, even though it is not expected to begin until September or October.
They have also offered odds of 3/1 that Adlington will reunite with fellow Team GB star Tom Daley for the recently-announced second series of celebrity diving show Splash!.

William Hill, meanwhile, has offered the same odds for the swimmer to appear on a series of Celebrity Big Brother before the Opening Ceremony of the Rio 2016 Olympics.
Recent series of all three shows have featured Team GB athletes amongst their cast. Retired cyclist Victoria Pendleton and gymnast Louis Smith took part in last year's series of Strictly - the latter being crowned winner in its December final - while judo star Ashley McKenzie and boxer Anthony Ogogo starred on Celebrity Big Brother and Splash! respectively.
A reality show appearance is deemed more likely than Adlington coming out of retirement to compete at the Games in Brazil, which can be backed at 8/1.
