The opening episode of Strictly's 11th series will air on BBC One from 6.50pm until 8.10pm, overlapping with that night's edition of The X Factor - which begins on ITV at 8pm - for 10 minutes.
There is little chance of time slots being shifted so that viewers can watch both programmes in full, as an ITV representative told Digital Spy that the schedules are "pretty fixed".
It was previously reported that X Factor boss Simon Cowell and ITV executives had decided against going head-to-head with Strictly this year following the BBC show's ratings dominance in 2012.
The X Factor will have a one week head start on Strictly, its 10th series launching this Saturday (August 31) at 8pm.
It was revealed that there will be 15 celebrities - eight women and seven men - taking part in the new series of Strictly when the BBC confirmed the new line-up of pro dancers last week.
Teri Hatcher, Coronation Street star Natalie Gumede, Countdown's Rachel Riley, Ben Cohen, Vanessa Feltz and Sophie Ellis-Bextor are among the stars rumoured for Strictly this year.
