The singer spoke out about the ITV1 competition in an interview with Red Dragon FM, claiming that he loves the show.
However, he expressed concern about the strain on young hopefuls such as 12-year-old Shaheen Jafargholi, who judge Amanda Holden described as "better than Tom Jones".
Sir Tom said: "I think Shaheen needs a bit more experience. I think maybe sometimes these kids are getting pushed right in to the deep end."
He added: "Starting singing in clubs, like I did, and then moving on to get a record contract gives you more experience. But some of these kids get contracts and I think it can be shocking for them."
Earlier this week, Shaheen was put through to the Britain's Got Talent final.
