The dance troupe, whose victory was watched by 19.2 million people, claimed that the odds were stacked against them because competitor Susan Boyle was "the most famous person in the world".
"We were [surprised] because of all the hype to do with Susan Boyle," Warren Russell told Heat.
"She's an amazing woman with an amazing voice, so to come up against her... we thought everyone would vote for her because she's the most famous person in the world at the moment."
Fellow dancer Terry Smith went on to praise Boyle for her "gracious" defeat on the night.
"We thought she was very funny and very gracious. We had a laugh with her and she was dancing and joking with us," he said.
"She obviously wasn't expecting the media pressure, but I think she's handled it very well. I hope she gets better soon."
