Alex Britez Cabral's exit from the show after the app task was seen by 7.11m on BBC One in the 9pm hour, down on the 7.8m that tuned in for the previous night's series debut. Spinoff show The Apprentice: You're Fired! appealed to 2.45m (12.3%) on BBC Two from 10pm.
The Apprentice performed strongly against The L'Oreal Paris National Movie Awards, which pulled in a modest 2.41m (10.7%) on ITV1 between 8pm and 10pm. The National Movie Awards Backstage dazzled 193k (1.1%) on ITV2 from 10pm.
Earlier, Waterloo Road entertained 5.24m (26.1%) on BBC One between 7.30pm and 8.30pm, before comedy Life Of Riley was seen by 3.7m (17.4%) from 8.30pm. Poms In Paradise had 3.77m (19%) on ITV1 from 7.30pm and 105k (0.5%) on ITV1+1. Would I Lie To You? amused 1.89m (14.5%) on BBC One from 10.45pm.
On BBC Two, Escape to the Country mustered 1.47m (7.6%) in the 7pm hour. Two Greedy Italians served up 1.87m (9%) from 8pm and Wonderland grabbed 610k (2.5%) from 9pm.
Vacation, Vacation, Vacation booked in 1.3m (6.4%) on Channel 4 between 8pm and 8.30pm, with 111k (0.5%) watching the show on +1. It was followed by Superscrimpers: Waste Not, Want Not, which had 1.55m (7.3%) and 134k (0.6%) on timeshift.
24 Hours in A&E opened with 2.26m (9.4%) on Channel 4 from 9pm and 360k (2%) on +1. Desperate Housewives grabbed 900k (5.2%) from 10pm and 143k (1.6%) an hour later.
Channel 5's Zoo Days fetched 506k (2.6%) from 7.30pm, before Essex Jungle had 660k (3.2%). NCIS and Law & Order: Criminal Intent brought in 2.06m (8.6%) and 940k (5.2%) respectively from 9pm.
Overall, BBC One owned primetime with 24.1% against ITV1's 14.4% (+1: 0.4%). BBC Two came in third with 7%, followed by Channel 4 with 6.4% (+1: 0.9%) and Channel 5 with 4.8%.
Elsewhere, Kerry Katona: The Next Chapter entertained 522k (2.2%) on ITV2 from 9pm and 139k (0.8%) on timeshift. New series Julia Bradbury's Icelandic Walks captivated 934k (3.9%) on BBC Four in the 9pm hour.
