Lord Sugar sent out a warning to the Apprentice candidates with a surprise double firing on tonight's show.

Vincent Disneur and Ellie Reed were both axed from the BBC One reality show after they failed to impress in a pet food advertising challenge.

Disneur was Project Manager for Team Logic this week. Alongside Jim Eastwood, he campaigned for his group to produce a product called Everydog, which was aimed at all canines.

Sugar was quick to point out the main flaw in their product, complaining: "The name 'Everydog' and the theme of one food for all dogs is the killer here and you need to go away and talk amongst yourselves and find out who is responsible for driving that through.

"You're insinuating that that food is good for any dog, but it doesn't work like that and it might be insulting to the actual pet owner."

Karren Brady joked: "Pets are special to their owners; you might as well have called it 'Any Old Dog'."

Disneur brought back Reed and Natasha Scribbins for the boardroom showdown, but his decision to save Eastwood later came back to haunt him as Lord Sugar became suspicious of the duo.

"I like people to focus on the task not their arse," Sugar warned Eastwood. Speaking about the manner in which Eastwood shirked responsibility for the team's failure, he added: "What I don't like about people is when they try and talk themselves out of it. You take responsibility or not... Is it brains or bollocks?"

After informing the Irish candidate that his card "is marked", Sugar then quickly fired Reed, claiming that she had "piped up" at the wrong time.

However, in a shock final twist he also pointed his finger at Disneur, who he accused of "strategising" in the boardroom.

"I've got the feeling that you are too in awe of other people and that you are playing a bit of a risky game in strategising by bringing the wrong people in here," said Sugar. "So I think a message needs to go back that, Vincent - you're also fired."

In the black taxi home, Disneur said: "I'm very surprised that Lord Sugar fired me. If I'd brought Jim in there, I wouldn't be in this position now."

The Apprentice continues next Wednesday at 10pm on BBC One.
