Published Wednesday, Feb 27 2008, 12:42 GMT | By Beth Hilton
The African version of The Apprentice made its TV debut yesterday, with simultaneous broadcasts in Nigeria, Ghana, Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda.

The Apprentice Africa will see nine men and nine women compete in a range of business challenges to win a top job and $200,000 cash.

Their efforts will be judged by Nigerian businessman Biodun Shobanjo, chairman and founder of marketing and communications group Troyka Holdings.

The contestants were selected from Nigeria, Ghana, Uganda, Guinea, Cameroon, Tanzania and Kenya after auditions were held across the continent last November.

The show is sponsored by Bank PHB and co-produced by US-based business investment firm The Executive Group and Storm Vision Ltd, the production company behind Big Brother Nigeria.
