2009 Reality TV Stars No.8: James McQuillan

By
This year's Apprentice was as good as any previous series, with Sir Alan Sugar's business reality show going from strength to strength. Margaret Mountford and Nick Hewer continued to mount the case for them to be given their own programme and Sir Alan fired off a whole variety of new one-liners ("I was in the Jewish Lad's Brigade, Stamford Hill Division, but it didn't make me sell computers when I got older!"). The best thing about series five, however, was the applicants.

Ben 'I went to Sandhurst' Clarke, Philip 'Pants Man' Taylor and Debra 'Ice Queen' Barr were obvious stand-outs, though the best of the lot was James McQuillan. A man who wrote on his CV that Hannibal from The A-Team was his business role model, he provided comic relief during even the biggest boardroom catfights. "I want it almost to be like Sir Alan's Willy Wonka and he's giving me the keys to the factory," said James during the interview round. Sadly, Sir Alan opted to give the golden ticket to Yasmina Siadatan instead.
