Hands up if you're excited about 'Junior Apprentice'

By
Quite frankly, we couldn't give a monkeys about this Thursday's general election. We don't care if you're a Cam-Fan, whether you're caught up in Clegg-mania, or if you're down with Mr Brown, we're bored stiff by the whole thing. Until they introduce bushtucker trials at the Leaders' Debate, allow Big Brother-esque twists in PMQs and let Paul Danan loose on Question Time, we'll be giving the world of politics a shrug of the shoulders. However, the looming polling day does bring with it some good news. It means that The Apprentice can finally come back!

While the new series, starting next week, is a Junior version with a shorter six-week run, that hasn't tempered our excitement one jot. Deprived of Sir Alan Sugar and Nick Hewer for over 12 months, we had previously taken to entertaining ourselves by reenacting classic scenes in the DS office and barking random catchphrases at each other ("I was a trainee bugler in the Jewish Lads Brigade!", "She's making a complete Horlicks of it!"). Thankfully, we can now pull ourselves together as there are only eight days until the show starts, with an intriguing sounding first challenge, which will apparently involve the sale of cheese produce. Bring on the Wensleydale!

With ten young bucks aged 16 to 17 competing for a £25,000 prize, it's hardly surprising that there are already tabloid reports of tears in the boardroom. Sadly, there will be no Maggie Mountford *boo! hiss!*, but we are reliably informed that Karen Brady has done her best to fill Mrs M's hefty boots and, more importantly, the ever-dependable Nick Hewer has been putting in extra hours working on his bitterest-of-lemons pout. The first series of the Junior Apprentice kicks off on Wednesday, May 12 at 9pm on BBC One.
