Three celebs face axe in 'The Match'
Published Monday, Oct 2 2006, 12:53 BST | By Ben Rawson-Jones
The first three players facing the axe from the celebrity squad in Sky One's The Match have been named.
Rugby star Martin Offiah, ex-Neighbours actor Blair McDonough and Streets singer Leo Ihenacho were all selected by manager Graham Taylor to be put on 'the bench', where they face the vote of both public and fellow players.
The eviction process involves the non-nominated players heading to the 'Boot Room' and choosing which of the three to grant a reprieve, with the most popular making it through to the next day. The player to survive from the remaining two is then decided by the public vote.
Graham Taylor has to whittle his squad down to 16 from its current 21 before his team face the 'Legends' on Sunday at St James's Park. One player will be released from the squad every night this week.
The current 21 players were selected from an initial pool of 70 celebrities, featuring names as diverse as Timmy Mallett and Dane Bowers.
