“ The Match ”
Star player Ralf Little faces heartbreak
Published Friday, Oct 6 2006, 09:19 BST | By Ben Rawson-Jones
Graham Taylor stunned the celebrity squad by placing Ralf Little on 'the bench' last night, alongside Rocky Marshall and Blair McDonough.
Little - who won Man of the Match in for the celebrity side in 2004 - sustained an ankle injury during Tuesday's training session, but was hopeful of a recovery in time for Sunday's game.
This was the third occasion ex Neighbours star McDonough has been placed on 'the bench' by Taylor. 'The Gaffer' has told him that he is simply "not good enough" for a place in the last 16.
There was a collective sigh of relief from Jeff Brazier, Alex Lawler and Danny Young when Taylor made his announcement. The trio were responsible for a series of pranks during the night, such as placing adhesive tape over McDonough's bedroom door. Taylor later fumed: "You have made my job easy tonight!" - but ultimately opted against placing them on 'the bench'.
The squad is being whittled down from 21 to 16 this week, with Leo Ihenacho, James Hooton, Brian McFadden and Michael Greco the unlucky players to be axed so far.
