BBC One keeps Friday night stronghold

BBC One triumphed yet again on Friday night in spite of the presence of ITV1's soaps, which continued to perform well.

Having taken a week off for Six Nations coverage last week, Hustle returned with a solid 5.72m (24%) in the 9pm hour.

Channel 4's Embarrassing Bodies put in 3.45m (14.4%) and 542k (2.8%) on +1, while Comedy Rocks with Jason Manford logged 2.59m (10.8%) for ITV1.

The Million Pound Drop also impressed for Channel 4, with 2.49m (13.9%) and 229k (2.1%) on timeshift, while Relocation: Phil Down Under managed 1.64m (6.7%) as well as a further 290k (1.2%) on timeshift.

Over on BBC Two, Mastermind and Life in a Cottage Garden mustered 2.27m (9.4%) and 1.65m (6.7%) in the 8pm hour, while ITV1's Children's Hospital interested 3.5m (14.4%). QI grabbed 3.42m (13.8%) for BBC One at 8.30pm.

Elsewhere, Ice Road Truckers delivered 1.24m (5.1%) for Channel 5 at 8pm, then 1.21m (5.1%) watched The Mentalist compared to 1.68m (7.1%) tuning into Can't Take It With You on BBC Two.

Law & Order attracted 1.19m (6.1%) at 10pm, ahead of BBC Two's Fast and Loose which had 1.09m (5.3%).

Overall, BBC One pipped ITV1 in primetime with 21.9% to 20.8% (+1: 0.3%). Channel 4 claimed third place with 8.9% (+1: 1.2%), followed by BBC Two with 6.7% and Channel 5 with 4.3%.
