Exclusive: 'Hustle' relocates to Birmingham?

Published Sunday, Mar 29 2009, 16:00 BST | By Neil Wilkes | 38 comments
They've done London, LA and Vegas - and now the Hustle crew are taking on... Birmingham.

In a shakeup for series six - which films this summer and airs early 2010 - Mickey and co. will be moving to England's second city.

This weekend I caught up with the legendary Robert Vaughn at the Memorabilia convention in Brum, where he spilled the beans on the relocation. "I found out last night that all six shows are going to be done in Birmingham," he told me. "I think this is the first time Birmingham has ever had a top-notch show film here." (Clearly Mr Vaughn isn't a fan of Doctors!)

He added: "Apart from this convention, one of my other responsibilities coming here is my wife said 'you've got to find out where I'm going to live!' So tonight after the signings I'm going down to the Rotunda in the Bullring, which is apparently the best place for apartment-type living."

Best of luck with the search, RV!

So, what do we think of Hustle's northwards move? Will Birmingham make a good setting? Add your comments to this entry below!

I remember that news about the second city, but I looked it up recently and it's not an official thing at all...Anyway, it's always great to read news like this, which will give the city lots of publicity. I also hope that it will attract other productions and help expand the city's creative industries.I'm originally from Birmingham and it seems a really great place to build a business. There are lots of gorgeous office spaces (such as around the Brindley Place area) and lots of more interesting, creative locations such as the Custard Factory. For anyone visiting I would really recommend staying in one of the serviced apartments Birmingham has to offer - I stayed in one last time I visited and it was really lovely and spacious.

RE mike second city belongs to manchester am afraid it belongs to birmingham just look at the census 1 millon vs 500,000 it dosnt take a child to guss that so if you want to be second larget city you better work harder in the bedroom department, about the film it made no difference where it was made i couldnt tell the difference noticed one thing is tha 6th and 7th series has more viewer then 4th and 5th so it picking up and i hope it stays there.

people are so stereotype they often forget there own back yard and complaing obout other cities i think birmingham was a right choice for bbc to move production i work as a courier and i travel most of uk and i have to say there are worst cities out there then birmingham and i am more amazed how birmingham turned around from dull to modern city so much so my son works and lives up there and he is loving it.

the show on the 14th friday 2011 was to my opinion was just taking the mick out of birmingham just kick this hustle crew out of here every time its all about the accent and grim of the city as if people have nothing better to comment i would look in your own back yard befor critising other cities yes b,ham has bad areas did u know the moast deprived areas of uk is in london a place called tower hemlet, bethnal green, camden town, brixton, barking, whitchapel, daggenham the largest council estate in europe i know this bcuz i used to live up there thats just london lets look at north well dont bother we are the only country in the world to bad mouth our own towns and cities so much for queen and country.

i was suprised when i saw hustle s6 i never knew birmingham had a good skyline and historic building, and for those people who are debating about 2nd city i looked up the facts in terms of population its birmingham terms of size birmingham and apparently has the 2nd highst economy output some times the younger generation mistake manchester as 2nd bcuz of shows like corie and football so in order of cities with high population is 1st london 2nd birmingham 3rd leeds 4th glassgow 5th manchester 6th bristol am not saying this its the official uk census.

Although many Brummies would have welcomed the Hustle episode in Birmingham. What they wouldn't have welcomed is the derogatory remarks about the city made throughout the show broadcast on friday 14th Jan. I'm sure many people in the midlands deserve better than this - as silly remarks are unbelievable. Robert Vaughan 'wouldn't to Birmingham as their never have a decent Hotel' and the craziest remark of all 'the Mark grew up in a downtrodden area of Solihull'. Whoever did their research on Birmingham needs their head examined.

Brum is no different than any other major city. I don't get why people talk down about cities that (most of the time) they have never been to. I watched some of the filming the other day on broad street....good stuff!

What about Eddies bar?

"Michael, Manchester on March 30th, 2009 Manchester is england's 2nd city......fact!" LOL!!! That gave me my biggest laugh for weeks. Birmingham is England's second city. That is, in fact, a... fact. And I'm a Londoner currently living in The Midlands. I think Birmingham will be a GREAT location for Hustle. It's a great city.
Victor Childe, Birmingham, on April 1st, 2009
Yes it is about time tv and film came back to Birmingham,
Adam, Manchester, on March 31st, 2009
Mike, Michael, you crack me up.

Who gives a toss about Birmingham or Manchester being England's second city, London is the capital, that's all is important lol. Getting back on topic: 'Hustle' gets sixth season! But the argument here should be that the BBC are complete bastards and nonces for not increasing the episode order to 13, they order 13 for 'Doctor Who' and give 'EastEnders' 215 episodes a year, yet it seems impossible for them to give 'Hustle' viewers a commendable run of episodes??? DigitalSpy, start a campaign to the BBC to give our British shows a decent run, they are going very Americanized nowadays in every other way yet they missed out the episode orders per season, how fucking thick are they! lol Surely they noticed that the American shows are blessed with at least 13-22/24 episodes per season!!!! We want this, we deserve this!
Jamie, Birmingham, on March 30th, 2009
Only problem with that poll was that it was available to only people on the Manchester BBC web site. Hardly surprising Manchester came out so well, lol. This issue has been thrashed to death elsewhere, I'm amazed it's reared its ugly little head again.
Michael, Manchester, on March 30th, 2009
Manchester is england's 2nd city......fact!
Dan, Brighton and Hove, on March 30th, 2009
Forget Birmingham, and the over-used yet not-all-that London, Hustle should head to the south coast. Good old Sussex by the Sea!
Mike, Leeds, on March 30th, 2009
Mike from Manchester - Birmingham is OFFICIALLY regarded as Britiain's second city, regardless of the Inside Out poll. You don't really think it is all based on an Inside Out poll do you?! Birmingham has been the recognised 2nd city for decades
Jamie, Birmingham, on March 30th, 2009
Mike from Manchester that was such a rigged poll I'm surprised you're still quoting it as gospel. Wish they'd waited to shoot in Brum 'till we'd got all the new skyline buildings up, it'd look magic. Hope the BBC don't play their usual trick on Birmingham and try and mock us.
