'Britain & Ireland's Next Top Model': Nude shoots and makeovers - recap

By
Shove a load of models in a house together and challenge them to battle it out for a list of stupidly brilliant prizes and you're going to expect some tears. But rather than take any risks, Next Top Model switched on the waterworks this week with makeovers all round and a compulsory birthday suit shoot.

Eleven beautiful young girls had their hair demolished by a hairdresser delivering bog-standard, box-ticking model cuts (the bob, the short pixie-ish number, the rock chick, the voluptuous blonde) and a cackling Julien Macdonald.

Girls wept as their hair was turned pink, chopped within an inch of their scalp and in some cases (Amy), dragged through a hedge backwards. Back in the Top Model house, the new haircuts encouraged a whole new smattering of insults ("pink?" "She looks like Ozzy Osbourne!").

After the mop-shearing and catty fall-outs, it was time for the clothes to come off as Elle Macpherson lead the Top 11 through an 'All For Eve' nude shoot. "It should be about the inner strength and the eyes," said the client. I'm sure that's what the Nuts magazine photographers tell all their girls too.

Some girls "nailed it" (probably an unfortunate turn of phrase when in the buff), but the majority struggled to impress. Either they looked uncomfortable (not surprising), they had tattoos (what happened to air-brushing?) or in one instance they were too skinny (a Next Top Model first?).

Back in the Elimination room, the judges showed no mercy. Despite the tears and hair disasters, Julien Macdonald unleashed his weekly cocktail of barbs ("he's given you the most boringest haircut in the world") and the barmy ("You look like a wild fantastic pussycat", "You have tits, so what? I wish I had tits like you!")

Grace Woodward claimed that her eyes were drawn "to a place that I shouldn't be looking" by one of the girls. "What? We shouldn't be looking there?" pondered every male viewer across the land. She also invented the term "elephantitis of the leg", which she sniped at one girl who hadn't quite pointed her toes in the right direction. We did tell you this show is brutal, right?

Ufuoma Itoje was the girl given the boot by the judges at the end of the show. She was "beautiful" but not a "top model", according to Julien. If the tears and flesh-flashing of last night wasn't enough to hook you in, make sure you give the show a whirl next week. One of the girls hooks up with a guy and there's a fight back at the house ("You're low. You're lower than dirt!"). Don't miss it.
