E4's 'Hollyoaks' spinoff starts with 743k

Spinoff show Hollyoaks Later had a decent start for E4 last night (Monday), drawing 743k (4.8%) to the channel in the 10pm hour.

The five part series, which follows Craig Dean (Guy Burnet) and sister Steph (Carley Stenson) on a remote holiday in Scotland, is being stripped every night this week on the digital channel. A further 166k (2%) watched an hour later on E4+1.

Later easily toppled the return of Kiefer Sutherland as Jack Bauer in 24: Redemption. The two hour TV movie pulled in 378k (3.1%) for Sky1 from 10pm.

It also beat BBC Three's EastEnders repeat, with 704k (4%) from 10pm, and ITV2's I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here Now!, which managed 424k (2.7%) in the 10pm hour (+1: 73k, 0.9%).

The most-watched multichannel show of the day was BBC Three's premiere of the penultimate episode of Spooks, which had 1.02m (8.5%) from 10.30pm.

Coronation Street was the most watched overall, with a mammoth 9.72m (41.2%) tuning in at 7.30pm and 9.37m (38.7%) returning an hour later. EastEnders had 9.4m (38.4%) for BBC One at 8pm, while Emmerdale picked up 7.3m (32.6%).

Hollyoaks delivered 1.7m (7.7%) to Channel 4 at 6.30pm, then 806k (4.1%) to E4 at 7pm (+1: 105k, 0.5%). On Five, Neighbours drew 1.58m (9.4%) and Home & Away had 1.08m (5.3%).

I'm A Celebrity kept up the pace for ITV1 at 9pm, drawing 8.56m (34.4%) for the hour, while BBC One's Spooks logged an admirable 5.39m (21.6%).

University Challenge was up to 3m (12.3%) on BBC Two at 8pm, then Indian Food Made Easy educated 2.1m (8.7%). Five's The Gadget Show took 1.42m (5.8%) to have the edge over C4's The Ascent Of Money, which dropped to 1.08m (4.4%).

At 9pm Channel 4 gained the lead with new documentary series Catastrophe. The first episode, about the creation of the Earth, pulled in 1.83m (7.3%), while on BBC Two, World War II: Behind Closed Doors drew 1.46m (5.8%). Five was a distant fifth for the hour with just 502k (2%) for Unbreakable.

ITV1's overall primetime share was down slightly to 28.6% (last week: 29.1%) while BBC One was steady with 22.6% (22.7%). BBC Two was third with 7% (7.1%), followed by Channel 4 on 5.6% (6.4%) and Five on 3.2% (4%).
