RTE secures 'Neighbours' deal

By
FremantleMedia Enterprises has secured what it calls a 'long-term deal' with Ireland's RTE for Neighbours.

The deal also includes The Bill and Shortland Street.

FME's Justin Hatfield, vice president of sales in Benelux, Scandinavia, the UK and Ireland said: "I am very pleased that the excellent long term relationship we have enjoyed with RTE has been cemented for further years to come with these excellent dramas forming the central pillars of this ground-breaking programming commitment."

Neighbours was at the centre of a bidding war earlier this year with incumbent UK broadcaster BBC One losing out to commercial rival Five. The show is likely to begin airing on Five in the spring.

The soap has also just undergone a revamp in Australia, with new graphics, a new theme tune and HD filming. The new-look episodes air in the UK from next week.

Dermot Horan, director of broadcast and acquisitions at RTE added: "We are delighted to continue our association with Neighbours and FME and are very much looking forward to an increase in audience as the newly worked episodes come to Ireland. I have seen some of them and they bring a fresh new zest to the series."
