'Weakest Link' could replace 'Neighbours'

The Weakest Link could move from BBC Two to Neighbours' slot when the soap leaves BBC One.

Currently children's shows run from 3:25pm to 5:35pm when the 25-minute soap begins.

But at a conference yesterday (Thursday) children's commissioner Richard Deverell admitted that it was possible that the soap's replacement would be longer.

"It's not going to be replaced by children's programming," he said. "No decision has been made yet about what will go in that slot. But CBBC will not move to BBC Two. It will remain on BBC One."

Sources later told The Guardian that BBC Vision director Jana Bennett wanted to move the quiz show over.

It runs for 45 minutes so may have to begin at 5:15pm - posing a problem for the children's programming before it. Shows could start earlier, when fewer children are home, or be cut.

A corporation spokesman said no decision had yet been made.

Five won rights to Neighbours in May.
