The pair began dating during the ITV2 show's second series this spring following a steamy pool party kiss, but the 20-year-old confessed that she and Essex had failed to keep that same "spark" alight.
Faiers wrote in her Star magazine column: "I was mothering Joey - I just need space from him. He's gorgeous but we spent so much time together so quickly that the spark went out just as fast.
"He was always more concerned about me than himself, and - although it is nice to be put first - I didn't want it to be like that."
Faiers further attributed the split to the "pressure" of having a romance in the spotlight.
"I honestly think we've all had so much pressure put on us," she said. "It's amazing for the show - but we are all under so much pressure and it's too much for our relationships."
The glamour model also dodged comparisons to her Only Way Is Essex co-star and former lover Mark Wright's on-off relationship with fiancee Lauren Goodger, which she branded "fake".
Faiers said: "This is our real life. It isn't fake and it isn't publicity. Lauren and Mark are always out to prove a point - me and Joey aren't like that. We have always kept it private."
