The 37-year-old narrator of the ITV2 show told Heat that Wright is the sort of man she would have gone for when she was younger.
Van Outen said: "I do think Mark Wright is a very good-looking chap. But you'd have to be very careful.
"He's the sort of person I would have fallen for back in the day and then been left crying into my pillow while all my friends said, 'I told you so'. He's an 'I told you so' kind of boy."
Wright has reportedly threatened to quit The Only Way Is Essex in a row over pay.
Van Outen added of the show: "God, I love it. I feel like my summer has been quite dull without it.
"People who think TOWIE is giving Essex a bad name don't see the fun in it. They're taking themselves too seriously and they need to lighten up."
