The new supernatural drama, a remake of the BBC original, focuses on a vampire, a werewolf and their ghostly female flatmate.
At the TCA press tour, Jeremy Carver dismissed any similarities between the new supernatural drama and the hugely successful film and literary franchise.
"What we love about Being Human is how grounded it is," he said. "It's set in an urban environment. Our characters are all living double lives."
He added: "There's a certain grittiness due to the realism of the show that peels [it] off... from competitors."
Carver insisted that the connection between the two projects had not given him "a moment of pause".
Being Human begins on January 17 at 9/8c on Syfy.
